Putting down roots for a heritage orchard
Agricultural evidence, site preparation and specialist coordination for a commercial orchard and traditional apple store.
The project
A client planned a small commercial heritage orchard on a greenfield site in Waverley. The proposal included a traditional timber-framed and clad apple store to support the fruit-growing enterprise.
The challenge
The orchard, its supporting storage and the ground preparation needed to be considered together. The site also required coordination between the client, their planning consultant, architect, nursery supplier and agricultural specialists.
Our approach
Prism Ag undertook a site visit, gathered the evidence for an agricultural justification statement and coordinated soil testing through an independent laboratory. We worked with an agronomist and agricultural contractors on site preparation, and liaised with the project team through the planning and planting stages.
The outcome
Prism Ag helped the client’s town planning consultant secure prior approval for the traditional apple store. A subsequent full application addressed the proposed height of the structure. The wider orchard project brought together around 400 heritage fruit trees with the supporting infrastructure and site preparation needed for planting.
